According to the Centers for Disease Control and PRevention, sickle cell disease occurs among about 1 out of every 365 Black or African-American births, leaving us to estimate that the state of Texas serves an approximate 9005 residents living with sickle cell disease, accounting for nearly 10% of the United State’s sickle cell
disease prevalence according to CDC potentially serving as burden to approximately 16% of the Houston African American population, potentially affecting 1500 Houstonians.
